Itinerary
Day 1 – ARRIVAL IN MADRID
Upon arrival in Madrid airport you will be welcome by the Gamma Tours guide. Orientation tour of the city, subjected to the flight schedule, and transfer to the hotel. Free time to refresh up and relax. Time at leisure. Overnight.
Day 2 – MADRID – BURGOS – LA RIOJA – 400 Km
Depart towards north and arrival at the historical city of Burgos, the emblematic capital of the Kingdom of Castile and León. You will see the most important monuments as the gothic cathedral with the main chapel inside, the grand dome, the choir stalls and the lateral chapels of Saint Anne and the Chapel of the Condestable; the Arch of Saint Mary, the entrance gate of the 16th. C., the porticoed Plaza Mayor and the Casa del Cordon (house of the Necklace.), … In the afternoon departure to La Rioja with a stop at San Millán de la Cogolla, a World Heritage Site. Overnight.
Day 3 – LA RIOJA – 100 Km
Depart to Haro, the capital of the Higher Rioja, to visit a family firm, the vineyards cover a surface of 170 Hectares with a total production of about 800.000 Kilos of grapes. Tour of the vineyards and visit of the winery.
In the afternoon, you will visit one of the oldest bodegas of La Rioja, the vineyards have an extension of 300 hectares. After receive a lot of explanations the visit will finish with a wine tasting. Return to the hotel. Overnight.
Day 4 – LA RIOJA – VALLADOLID – 275 Km
We start the day visiting the Museum of the Wine Culture that offers a tour through the history and culture of wines.
We continue with a visit to a winery designed to maximise the natural and unique characteristics of each grape variety from different estates. The result is a wide range of modern, bold wines with a distinct personality, showcasing the enterprising and innovative character of this winery.
Afterwards depart Valladolid, the capital of the region of Castile and León, which is also the most important political and administrative city. Overnight.
Day 5 – VALLADOLID – RIBERA DEL DUERO – 100 Km
Time free for a stroll through Valladolid. Depart to Quintanilla de Onésimo to discover the first wine-cellar of this Wine Origin Denomination (D.O.) located on a farm with 1.500 Hectares of which 150 of them are vineyards of different varieties.
During the afternoon, visit one of the wine-cellars with most advanced technology used to obtain the best quality wines. Return to Valladolid. Overnight.
Day 6 – VALLADOLID – CIGALES – TORO – VALLADOLID – 160 Km
You head to the area of the D.O. of Cigales. This small growing area of only 2.400 hectares used to be known for rosé wines but over the last years the growers have started to change to red wines which give them a better yield. Accompanied by an expert you visit the vineyards and later the wine-cellar ending with a tasting in very special environment.
Continue to the D.O. of Toro and visit of a small wine-cellar that, besides different reds, they also produce a sweet white wine and a sparkling wine. Return to Valladolid. Overnight.
Day 7 – VALLADOLID – RUEDA – SALAMANCA – 160 Km
You leave towards the close-by D.O. Rueda, one of the areas of Spain where they produce nearly exclusively white wines using the local variety Verdejo and the well-known Sauvignon Blanc grapes. During the morning, visit of a family firm in Rueda. Visit of the vineyards, then of the winery, finishing with a wine tasting.
Then you head to visit the most important wine-cellar of Rueda, they export to more than 40 countries and the benefits have been reinvested in modern technology.
Depart towards the historical city of Salamanca which is a World Heritage. Overnight.
Day 8 – SALAMANCA – City tour
Today you will visit the first city with a university, seeing the plaza Mayor, the Romanesque church of San Martín, the House of the Shells, the Clerecía, the courtyard of the Schools, the Old University, the New Cathedral and other monuments.
Afternoon at leisure to relax, walking around or shopping down. Overnight.
Day 9 – SALAMANCA – MADRID – 225 Km
Depart to Madrid. In the afternoon visit the capital seeing the most important streets, squares and avenues as Paseo de Recoletos, Plaza de Colón, Avenida de la Castellana, the famous Cibeles Square, the Houses of Parliament, Gran Via, Plaza de España and Plaza de Oriente. From there you walk through the old quarter Madrid of the Austrians, with the plaza Mayor, the Market of San Miguel, the plaza de la Villa, the Puerta del Sol…
Free afternoon that clients may devote to visit important museums such as Prado Museum. Queen Sofia Museum and so on. Overnight.
Day 10 – MADRID AND SURROUNDINGS – 250 Km
Today you will discover the wines of the D.O. Vinos of Madrid which, in the last few years, have achieved national and international recognition for their quality. Visit a wine-cellar with 35 hectares of old vine stocks, the grapes are grown organically, Visit of the cellar with a wine-tasting.
In the afternoon, visit of the premises which are an agro-industrial complex, since apart from making wines, they also produce vinegars and have their own olive mill to obtain olive oil.
Return to Madrid. Farewell dinner and overnight.
Day 11 – MADRID DEPARTURE
Free time until you go to the airport. Check-in at the airline counter, go through passport and security control and leave for your next destination.
