Itinerary

Day 1 – ARRIVAL IN BARCELONA

Upon arrival to Barcelona airport the cohort will be met and greeted by our guide/interpreter. You will do an orientation tour of the city on the way to the hotel. Time at leisure to relax and to refresh up. Overnight.

Day 2 – BARCELONA – City tour

Morning city tour accompanied by the English speaking official local guide seeing from outside the most relevant monuments of Barcelona, some of them designated World Heritage Sites.

Afternoon at leisure that on their choice can be devoted to discover some interesting sites or visit some museums such as Picasso, Miro or some others. Overnight.

Day 3 – BARCELONA AND ITS PROVINCE – 150 Km

You head north to visit an artisan cheesemaker where you receive full explanations of the elaboration process of the different kind of cheeses.

In the afternoon, you will visit a beef cattle farm of the local race named Bruna dels Pirineus (Brown of the Pyrenees) probably accompanied by the general manager of this farmer association.

Return to Barcelona. Time at leisure. Overnight.

Day 4 – WINERY – BARCELONA – MADRID – 125 Km

Packing and load the luggage into the motor coach. In the morning, you will visit a winery which is one of the top five wine producers in Spain, having also vineyards in Napa Valley (California) and in Chile. Some of its wines have been scored with more than 90 points out of 100 by Robert Parker. It is a family owned and managed company. Visit of the winery ending with a tasting.

Return to Barcelona going straight to the rail station to board the high-speed train to Madrid located 650 Km far of Barcelona. The trip it takes about 2 hours and the half.

Upon arrival in Madrid transfer from the rail station to the hotel doing an orientation tour. Free time Overnight.

Day 5 – MADRID – City tour

Morning city tour accompanied by the English speaking local official guide seeing from outside the most relevant monuments, streets and avenues.

Ending the sightseeing tour, the motor coach will drop off the cohort at the city centre and afternoon at leisure. Return to the hotel on their choice. Overnight.

Day 6 – MADRID – PROVINCE OF TOLEDO – 250 Km

Departure to the province of Toledo to visit a beef cattle farm that holds about 6.000 heads. During the visit to this farm you will be accompanied by a veterinary who will give you full explanations.

Then you head to Toledo a beautiful city and former capital of Spain. Accompanied by the official local guide walking through the old quarter seeing from outside the most relevant monuments some of them designated World Heritage Sites. Stay in Toledo is not completed without a visit to the craft shop of the Toledo Gold, a unique way of engraving gold in other metals. Overnight.

Day 7 – MADRID – MERIDA – 350 Km

Early depart to west crossing the plains of Castile – La Mancha region towards the region of Extremadura, which is the most important producer of merino sheep in Spain.

The tradition or legend says that the first merino race sheep exported to Australia came from this region.

En route and making a diversion you stop for visiting a merino sheep farm of about 1,000 merino sheep. You will be welcomed by the owner who show you the farm giving full explanations about genetic improvement, managing and so on. You will also have a meeting with the President of the Extremadura Sheep Farmers Association.

Afterwards you will visit a lamb feedlot where easily could be about 10,000 lambs.

Continue to Mérida, which is the political and administrative capital of this region. Accommodation at the hotel to refresh up and relax. Free time and overnight.

Day 8 – MERIDA – LISBON – 400 Km

In the morning visit the Roman Amphitheatre and Theatre, both designated World Heritage Sites

Then you head to west, you cross the border crossing Portugal from east to west. Arrival in Lisbon you will be accommodated in the hotel. Overnight.

Day 9 – LISBON – RIBATEJO – LISBON – 225 Km

Departure to Samora Correia to visit which probably is the largest farm in Portugal with a total of 20.000 hectares. In the headquarters a person of the company will be waiting for you to show a part of this farm. The Leziria [marshy land] lies between the Tejo and the Sorraia Rivers and is divided by a road into north and south Leziria.

After the pastures and the fodder production area, rice is the predominant crop, covering an area of 600 hectares, followed by 140 hectares of corn.

They produce quite everything, including wine, besides they have dairy cows, beef cattle, ewes and purebred Lusitan or Portuguese horses and a winery.

Since 1997, this firm has consolidated its situation over time in both technological and financial terms, based on a philosophy of a sustained development. Return to the hotel. Time at leisure at the choice of each client. Overnight.

Day 10 – LISBON – ALCOBAÇA – NAZARE – LISBON – 350 Km

You head north driving on the highway till arrive in Alcobaça where you visit an experimental farm founded more than 20 years ago. They offer a variety of apples and pears of the highest quality, produced within the fine techniques and kept in the best conditions by means of advanced technology equipment.

With orchards sited in their own production fields sited at Alfeizerão, the outmost attention and extreme care is taken in all stages of the production cycle. This firm produces 7 apple varieties and two pear varieties.

Then you continue to Nazare. It has an atmosphere of times gone by, contentment and traditions which continue to thrive, which make it a special place to visit. Free time.

Heading south you return to the hotel. Time at leisure at the choice of each client. Overnight.

DAY 11 – LISBON – City tour

Lisbon, capital of Portugal where you will spend the day.

Sightseeing tour accompanied by the official local guide, with a visit to Lisbon commencing by the monumental quarter of Lisbon linked to the Discoveries, where some monuments are located.

Visit to the “Solar do Vinho do Porto” where the group will have the opportunity to taste Porto wine and a professional will talk about Porto wine, history, present and future.

Then you pass by the old city centre such as Praça Rossio, Praça Restauradores and the Liberdade Avenue with time at leisure for shopping down in the commercial streets. Time at leisure. Overnight.

Day 12 – LISBON – JABUGO – SEVILLE – 425 Km

Departure to southeast crossing the plain of the Alentejo region, cross the Portuguese/Spanish border and then you descend to Sierra de Huelva where are produced one of the best Iberian pork cured ham. Visit one of these factories where you receive full explanations about the Iberian pig race, the feeding and the elaboration process ending with a tasting. (Actually this Iberian ham is a delicatessen)

Continue to Seville. Overnight.

Day 13 – SEVILLE – JEREZ AND CROPS PRODUCTION – 225 Km

Drive to Jerez, a town well known around the world for its Sherry wine production; the first winery there was founded by the British.

You visit a Sherry wine cellar where you see that the elaboration process is completely different of the table wine. There are several kinds of Sherry wine, dry, medium and sweet. You end the tour of the winery with a tasting.

Afterwards you leave to the Royal School of Equestrian Art to admire the horse show. (ONLY SOME DAYS OF THE WEEK)

From there you head to a town located on the north of Seville where you visit a coop that produces several kinds of crops such as cereals, fruits and so on.

Return to the hotel. Overnight.

Day 14 – SEVILLE City Tour

Accompanied by the official local guide you visit the most emblematic city of Andalusia seeing from outside the most important, beautiful and important monuments, three of them designated World Heritage Sites such as the Cathedral or the Alcazar, besides you see Maria Luisa Park and stroll through the old Jewish Quarter that now is Santa Cruz Quarter, remembering medieval times.

Afternoon at leisure to walk around on your own choice, to shopping down at the commercial streets or to do boat trip on the Guadalquivir River. Overnight.

Day 15 – SEVILLE – GRANADA – 250 Km

Early departure to head to Granada crossing the Andalusian plains from west to east.

Before to arrive to the city you make a short diversion to visit a dairy farm. They have about 600 Frisian cows and its milk production is pasteurised and bottled to be sold in the province and in the nearby provinces. This dairy coop doesn’t accept visits in the afternoon, so we must do it late in the morning about noon. You will probably be welcomed by the general manager who will show you the installations giving full explanations how she manages the coop and commercialise the milk production.

Continue to Granada City where before to go to the hotel you do an orientation tour by the streets and avenues where motor coach is allowed to drive.

Remain of the day at leisure on their own. Overnight

Day 16 – GRANADA City Tour

Granada is one of the best-known Andalusian cities for its Palace of the Alhambra that you will visit accompanied by the official local guide (mandatory and very strict controlled); Besides you also visit the Generalife that was the summer home of the Caliphs, surrounded by nice gardens. This building complex were designated World Heritage Sites.

The afternoon it will be at leisure at the choice of each client. This free time can be devoted to visit the old city centre where the Cathedral, the Royal Chapel and some other relevant monuments are located.

In the evening, you will attend to a Flamenco show. As you know Flamenco is the typical Andalusian folklore. The show take place in an old gypsy cave.

Return to the hotel. Overnight.

Day 17 – GRANADA – CORDOBA – 200 Km

Departure towards north to the province of Cordoba; in a small town, you visit a couple of pottery and ceramic makers who are working in an artisan way. These visits are always enjoyed for all visitors.

This inner area of Andalusia can be considered the “real Andalusia” not generally visited by tourists.

In the afternoon, you visit a machinery factory for the agriculture. You walk around the factory where its different departments will be shown, receiving you full explanations by a technician.

From there you head to Cordoba City to visit the Mosque-Cathedral, which is a World Heritage Site. Overnight.

Day 18 – CORDOBA – MADRID/BARCELONA (BY HIGH SPEED TRAIN)

Packing and load the luggage into the bus and transfer to the rail station to board the high-speed train to leave to Madrid or Barcelona dependent if you may fly back from Madrid or you need to travel to Barcelona.

Arriving on rail station (Madrid or Barcelona) and a bus will be waiting the passengers for the transfer to the hotel.

Remain of the day at leisure. The Farewell dinner (whether you wish) will be served in a local restaurant. Return to the hotel and overnight.

Day 19 – MADRID OR BARCELONA DEPARTURE

Time at leisure till the transfer at the appropriate time to the airport according the flight schedule. Check-in at the air carrier counter, then go through the passport and security control and board the plane to your next destination.
