Itinerary
Day 1 – ARRIVAL AT BARCELONA AIRPORT
On arrival at Barcelona Airport, the group will be met and greeted by a Gamma Tours escort. Transfer to the hotel.
In the evening, the welcome dinner will be served at one of the oldest restaurants of the city, founded more than 200 years ago. Overnight.
Day 2 – BARCELONA
Depart to the most known retailer food market in Barcelona. Later, strolling through several streets and avenues, you come across the Gothic Quarter, where you can find the Royal Square, the King Square, Cathedral and St. James’ Square where the Seat of the President of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and the City Hall are located.
Lunch in a restaurant located in the gothic quarter where you will taste the delicacies of the Mediterranean and Catalan cuisine.
In the afternoon, you continue the visit seeing the famous Holy Family Basilica designed by the architect Antonio Gaudi, as well as some other Modernist buildings, some of designated World Heritage Sites.
Return to the hotel and free time. Overnight.
Day 3 – BARCELONA – FIGUERES – BARCELONA – 300 Km
Depart to Figueres capital of the district Alt Empurda; you will visit one of the most important wine cellars of the Origin Denomination Emporda. Ending the visit, you will taste some wines.
After this, you will leave to Figueres for lunch. The menu will have its own peculiar culinary identity of the Mediterranean Cuisine.
You will then leave for the Dali Museum, founded by Salvador Dali himself. This painter is a reference point of 20th century.
Return to Barcelona. Lodging.
Day 4 – BARCELONA – TARRAGONA – 125 Km
Departure to the Roman City of Tarragona founded 2300 years ago. There you visit ancient Roman monuments such as the Walls, the Archaeological Passage and the Roman Amphitheatre, designated a World Heritage Site. You also see the remains of the Circus, the Temple and the Forum.
Per the season, lunch might consist in a “Calçotada”, (Shallots) Out of this period, we have selected for you a restaurant with a singular and unique setting.
In the afternoon, you will see when fishermen arrive to the Tarragona harbour with the fresh fish of the day. Time at leisure. Overnight.
Day 5 – TARRAGONA – LLEIDA – 150 Km
Depart to the Cistercian Monastery of Poblet. The construction of this monastery began in the 12th century and combines due to its prolonged construction, four architectural styles: The Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. The Church houses the Royal Pantheon you also see that the wonderful Cloister as well as some other rooms that are interesting.
Head to the medieval town of Montblanc where in its surroundings you visit an owned and managed winery; the family harvest vineyards for over 150 years and since 1998, produces its own wine.
Its wines are very well scored in different wine guides including Robert Parker. They only produce wine from the grapes with their own vineyards and export about 50 per cent of its production. In total, they produce 9 types of wine some of them are organic. You end the visit with a tasting.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant with a typical Catalonian menu based in the olive oil, which is one of the basic element of the Mediterranean cuisine.
Continue to Lleida. Arrival at the hotel, accommodation, free time to rest and remainder of the day at leisure. Lodging.
Day 6 – LLEIDA AND ITS SURROUNDINGS – 50 Km
In the harvest season when fruits like apples, pears, peaches and cherries are picked (which is from April or May to September), you will have the chance to go a rural property where yourselves will be able to pick your own fruit. Following this, you will go to a Catalonian farm house where homemade jam is made. The owner will show you how to make jam.
Out of this period you do a sightseeing tour to Lleida City seeing its more relevant monuments.
Lunch will take place in a restaurant whose menu will have the elements of the local cuisine.
In the afternoon, a visit to a modern and innovative winery in Catalonia; the visit includes a trip to the vineyards (subjected to weather condition) and the winery where are elaborated 17 different types of wines, ending with a tasting.
Return to Lleida, free time and remainder of the day at leisure. Lodging.
Day 7 – LLEIDA – EL PENEDES – BARCELONA – 180 Km
Early breakfast and depart towards the Mediterranean the Penedes district.
You visit an owned and managed family company; which wines can be found in more than 150 countries around the world. They also have wineries in USA and Chile. Several of their wines have more than 90 points in the Robert Parker Wine’s Guide.
As it is a long day instead to do a farewell dinner you will do a farewell lunch. Enjoy a meal paired with fantastic wines in the private restaurant in an old Catalan country house dating back from the 14th century, that also belongs to the winery you visited. We offer you the pleasures of traditional Mediterranean cuisine. You will then continue to Barcelona. Remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight.
Day 8 – DEPARTURE FROM BARCELONA
Breakfast. Free time until you go to the airport. Check-in at the airline counter, get the boarding card, and then go through the passport and security control and departure to your next destination.
