With our wine tours’ programmes, we arrange for your clients to visit a host of award winning wine cellars or wineries.
Itinerary
Day 1 – ARRIVAL AT BARCELONA AIRPORT
Upon arrival at Barcelona International Airport the cohort will be met and greete by a Gamma Tours escort. Transfer to the hotel and accommodation. Free time to rest and to refresh up. In the evening, the group will be given a panoramic tour of the most important illuminated highlights of the city. Overnight.
Day 2 – BARCELONA – City tour
In the morning, a tourist visit with a local official guide to the city of Barcelona, this is one of the most beautiful and fashionable cities of the Mediterranean. There, you will get the chance to see the famous “Sagrada Familia” of the architect Antonio Gaudi, as well as some other Modernist buildings, which can be found along the Passeig de Gracia and its closest streets; some of them were designated World Heritage Sites.
Later, you come across the Gothic Quarter, where you can find the Cathedral, the area where the Seat of the President of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and the Town Hall are located. This area is also well known for its narrow streets full of beautiful historic buildings, some of which are centuries old. Return to the hotel.
In the afternoon, departure north along the Mediterranean coast. You will visit a wine cellar where different types of white wine and “cava” are produced. Founded more than 80 years ago, in the last 10 years has developed a high-quality wine and cava. The production of each type of wine and cava is very limited. This company has expanded its business in Ribera del Duero, where they produce red wine. During the visit, group will receive explanations about the elaboration process of both products, ending with a sample. Back to Barcelona. Overnight.
Day 3 – BARCELONA – GIRONA – FIGUERES – BARCELONA – 300 Km
Depart towards Girona. You will then go on to the area of the Alt Empordà, where you will visit one of the most important and popular wine cellars of the Origin Denomination Empordà. This wine-maker produce a wide range of products of different qualities and prices. The wine is elaborated from several grapes varieties. About one third of their production is exported to many countries of the world
After this, you will leave for Figueres.
You will then leave for the Dali Museum, founded by Salvador Dalí himself. This painter is a reference point of 20th century painting and you will get the chance to admire several of his masterpieces.
Return to Barcelona. Free time. Overnight.
Day 4 – BARCELONA – PRIORAT – TARRAGONA – 200 Km
Early departure towards south to visit a small DO but well known around the world, which is Priorat.
In this area, you will visit 2 or 3 of the top 5 of this D.O.; all of them got some domestic and international awards having scores with more of 90 over 100 points by Robert Parker.
In each visit accompanied by one technician or oenologist you receive full explanation about the characteristics of the soil, grapes varieties and elaboration process ending with a sample of wines.
Depart to Tarragona or surroundings where you overnight.
Day 5 – TARRAGONA – LLEIDA – 150 Km
Depart to the DO Costers del Segre in the province of Lleida. The first winery you visit today the estate is located on the north face of the Sierra de la Llena ridge and at an altitude of between 700 and 740 metres above sea level. The winery has planted 29 hectares of its land with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Garnacha, Carignan, Marselan, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc… The winery has also acquired grapes grown under its supervision from other vineyards in the local area. They elaborate 10 different types of wines.
Then you continue towards a village where the main winery of this DO is located. It belongs to a large Group of Companies; the estate has 2,400 hectares; 1800 of those are planted of several vines varieties. You walk along the vineyards and then you enter to the new wine cellar built few year ago.
The visit accompanied by a specialist will end with a sample of 3 different wines. Overnight in Lleida.
Day 6 – LLEIDA – MANRESA – BARCELONA – 200 Km
You leave by the dual carriage way to Manresa and surroundings to visit one family winery of the DO Pla de Bages with one hundred years of history. You see the vines and the wine cellar receiving full explanations of the elaboration process ending with a wine tasting.
Then you will visit a Monastery built on the 12C, continuing then to Barcelona. Overnight.
Day 7 – BARCELONA – PENEDES DISTRICT – BARCELONA – 150 Km
Departure towards D.O. Penedes for visiting a company, which probably is one of the top five winemakers in Spain that has several wineries in different D.O. in Spain as well as in California and Chile
Some wines of this firm are rated in the Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide with more than 90 points out 100.
After to see the vineyards you will visit the wine cellars where you will be given details on the fermentation process, filtering, maturing, bottling, etc. ending with a sampling of four different wines. This family exports its wines to 145 countries.
In the afternoon, you will visit a cava placed in an old “masia” built two centuries ago. When the business expanded, the family had to build new cellars.
This firm produces five different types of cava. You will be given a guided tour of the cavas and end with a sampling session. The Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide gave one of its varieties of cava a score of 90 out of 100. You end the visit with a tasting.
Return to Barcelona. Farewell dinner and overnight.
Day 8 – DEPARTURE FROM BARCELONA
Free time until you go to the airport. Check-in at the airline counter, go through passport and security control and leave for your next destination.
