CATALONIA HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL (8 days/7 nights)

 

Day 1 – ARRIVAL IN BARCELONA

You arrive to the most dynamic and commercial city in Spain. Pick up the car at the rental office and drive to the hotel. Time at leisure. Overnight.

Day 2 – BARCELONA – City tour

Barcelona is one of most visited European cities. See the Romans Walls, Middle Ages monuments and Modernist style buildings some of them designated World Heritage Sites; besides you have some important Museum to visit such as Picasso, Miro and so on. Overnight.

Day 3 – BARCELONA – TARRAGONA–110 Km

Departure south towards Tarragona that was the most important city of the Peninsula during the Roman domination. Visiting it, you will have 2000 years of history and culture in your hands such as the Amphitheatre and Theatre, designated as World Heritage Sites. The medieval monuments are located around the Cathedral. Overnight.

Day 4 – TARRAGONA – POBLET – LLEIDA – VALLEY OF BOI – 300 Km

Visit the Cistercian Monastery of Poblet founder in 1150, built in four different architectural building styles. Visit the Church, the Royal Pantheon, the Cloister, the Refectory and so on.

Not far from there you find the walled medieval town of Montblanc.

Then from the fertile plains of Lleida you go up to the pre-Pyrenees mountains till arrive in the Valley of Boi. Overnight.

Day 5 – VALLEY OF BOI – 50 Km

In Boi and its surroundings you find one of the most important groups of Romanesque churches, built in a beautiful landscape anywhere in the world, designated World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO. You have the chance to visit several impressive Romanesque churches and the Aigües Tortes National Park. Overnight.

Day 6 – VALLEY OF BOI – GIRONA – FIGUERES – 300 Km

Crossing different Catalonian districts, you will know the inner part of Catalonia. Stop in Vic, where the Bishop Museum is worthy to be visited and then you head to Girona. In this city, you see the walls built by the French King Charlemagne, the important Jewish Quarter and strolling in these old and narrow streets you feel to be in Medieval times.

Continue to Figueres. Overnight.

Day 7 – FIGUERES – SANT PERE DE RODES – EMPURIES–FIGUERES – 150 Km

Few mileages far from Figueres you can visit the Greek and Roman remains in Empuries where an interesting historical museum is located. Return to Figueres to visit the Dali Museum, founded by himself who has been a world reference in the 20th century painting.

Then drive to the Romanesque Monastery of St. Pere de Rodes, located not too far away, which is worthy to be visited, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Return to Figueres. Overnight.

Day 8 – FIGUERES – BARCELONA – DEPARTURE 150 Km

Leave to Barcelona airport, drop off the car at the rental office and departure to your next destination.
