REGIONS OF VALENCIA, ALICANTE & MURCIA – IN THE PARADISE OF PAELLA (6 days/5 nights)

 

Day 1 – ARRIVAL AT VALENCIA

Arrival at the Valencia international airport; Meet & Greet by the Gamma Tours guide and transfer to the hotel. Free time to rest, to refresh up or explore the city on your own. Welcome dinner. Overnight.

Day 2 – VALENCIA – LA ALBUFERA – VALENCIA

With a local guide, you visit the old medieval city, the cathedral with its’ belfry tower, and its’ door where the irrigation community settle water disputes; the Palace of the Generalitat and the former Silk Market or Lonja de la Seda, a World Heritage Site. Continue with your coach for a panoramic tour of the Ciutat de Les Arts, the Harbour, the gardened Turia riverbed.

Lunch at a restaurant famous for the high quality of its’ products.

Depart to the Natural Park of La Albufera, a bird sanctuary with a surface of 21.000 hectares of which half are planted with rice (only in the growing season). This is the place where paella has its’ origins. The visitors’ Centre informs about the wildlife, flora, human use, fishing, rice growing, traditions… Possibility (optional) to make a boat tour. Return to the hotel, overnight.

Day 3 – VALENCIA – ALICANTE

Depart south to visit an organic orange grower (November to April). Visit the groves with explanations about the crop, possibility to taste some oranges directly from the tree! Stop en route to Alicante to visit a Wine Cellar producing some of the finest red and white wines of the Alicante Denomination of Origin.

Lunch with a Menu that allows to taste and savour three different kind of paellas.

From the beach, you take the lift to go up to the Fortress of Santa Barbara, built upon the 166-m. high Benicantil Rock, offering extraordinary views of the city and the Port. Possibility to visit the excellent Archaeological Museum, or to do a panoramic tour along the main avenues and the Waterfront with its’ gardens. Overnight.

Day 4 – ALICANTE – ELCHE – MURCIA

Departure to Elche, whose extensive Palm Tree Grove, the Palmeral, is unique in Europe with over 200.000 date palm trees, declared a World Heritage Site. Visit the city park with imperial palms and plants and flowers, from the subtropical to the Mediterranean climates.

Continue to Murcia to visit a winery that produces the best wine of the Denomination of Origin, explanations about the varieties, growing, climate, ageing, finishing with a Wine tasting.

Continue to Caravaca to enjoy a typical meal of the province of Murcia with a menu based on the fresh vegetables of the famous Huerta (vegetable and fruit gardens) of Murcia. During the afternoon, you have the chance to enjoy the opportunity to discover some of its’ interesting old monuments. Continue to Murcia. Overnight.

Day 5 – MURCIA – VALENCIA

Murcia is in the arid climate area of south-eastern Spain, by the side of the River Segura, whose waters are derived to the irrigation canals that fertilise this man-made Oasis in the middle of dry-land. It is known as the Garden of Europe. Enjoy the possibility to discover the old city with the cathedral, the main Cardenal Belluga Square, the belfry and the bishop’s palace. In the old quarter, you find the traditional and modern shops, on Traperia, Plateria and Vidrieros Streets.

Light tapas lunch in a local restaurant. Afterwards, depart with luggage to Valencia. Time to refresh and Farewell Dinner. Overnight.

Day 6 – VALENCIA – AIRPORT

Transfer to the airport according to your check-in time, with assistance of your Gamma Tours guide. Depart to your next destination.
